Asha Jat (Garment Maker)

Narsing Dev SHG - Talun Barwani, Madhya Pradesh

Asha’s journey toward empowerment began with training from Hand in Hand India (HiH) in SHG management, financial literacy, and enterprise development. With HiH’s support, Asha started a home-based business selling sarees. She then completed a 30-day advanced tailoring course, expanding her skills to make shirts, pants, baby frocks, carry bags, and designer blouses. This expertise helped her diversify her products and boosted both her business and confidence. HiH India connected Asha with wholesalers at the Barwani market, allowing her to buy materials in bulk. Her shop grew to offer sarees, women’s accessories like bangles, hair clips etc, increasing her business and securing a better future for her family.

Durga Sen (Pickle and Papad Maker)

Kela Devi SHG - Talwada Deb, Barwani, Madhya Pradesh

Durga Bai from Talwada Deb, whose journey from a housewife to a successful entrepreneur exemplifies the impact of our support. Despite her family's reliance on her husband and son's hair salon for income, Durga Bai always dreamed of more. Her talent for making delicious papads, a favorite among her relatives and neighbors, caught our attention.

Recognizing a market gap in the local weekly market, dominated by outsiders, we guided Durga Bai in starting her own papad-making enterprise in March 2024 with an initial investment of INR 700. Her chana papads quickly became popular, earning her a monthly profit of INR 3,000. Further training allowed her to diversify her product range to include urad, rice, and maize papads, boosting her monthly income to INR 6,000. Her papads, priced at INR 200 per kilogram, are now in high demand at both the weekly market.
